CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING


The best part of this chocolate frosting recipe is that it is only 6 ingredients! I took the base of my regular vanilla buttercream frosting and simply added melted chocolate. It is silky smooth, subtly sweet, and perfect for any cake.


Let's get into it!


INGREDIENTS

8 oz. Chocolate, melted

1 cup Unsalted Butter, room temperature

1 ½ cups Powdered Sugar

2 tsp. Vanilla

2-3 tbs. Heavy Whipping Cream

1/4 tsp. Salt


INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Begin by adding the chocolate to a medium heat safe bowl. Over a double boiler, melt the chocolate until completely melted and smooth. Set aside to slightly cool.

  2. In a stand mixer, using the paddle attachment, whip your butter until soft, creamy, and lighter in color.

  3. Once smooth and fluffy, add half the powdered sugar and mix on low-medium speed until fully combined. Then, add the second half of the powdered sugar and mix until combined.

  4. Then, add the vanilla extract and salt, and mix until combined.

  5. On low speed, slowly pour in the heavy cream. Mix until combined.

  6. While continuing to mix the frosting, slowly pour in the cooled and melted chocolate.

  7. Using a spatula fold until all the chocolate is combined.

You can use this chocolate frosting recipe for icing cakes or for cupcakes!



My favorite thing about this recipe is that the base of it is my regular buttercream frosting recipe. So whenever I have frosting leftover I can easily make it chocolate frosting!
